Our Tree

Well getting our tree was really pleasant but when we got home, it wasn't so pleasant.  But it's certainly a story for our family books haha and I'm starting to laugh about it but on Sunday it was not laughable.

But let me tell you all about where we got the tree.  It was a tree stand with 100% of the trees donated, all who were working were volunteers and 100% of what we paid for the tree goes to pediatric cancer research at our local hospital.  Even better - the Levine Family is matching it $ for $.  Our tree was $80 so $160 will go to research.  Amazing right?!

I highly recommend you to check out the website linked here.  It is on Newtown Road near the intersection of Marvin School Road in Waxhaw, NC.

So we got the tree off the roof of the car and it fell on top of me so that was the first time I was pinned under it.  Then we got the thing inside and tried to lift it into the tree stand and then it fell on me again.  Yes, I was super thrilled by this point.  Then Kevin got it into the tree stand, but it was not secure and it was crooked.  We still added water so the house wouldn't burn down and we went to bed.

11:01pm, thump.  I heard it fall.  Our room is on the other side of that bookshelf and specifically our head is against that wall.  Ha!  I went out there and used an entire paper towel roll to clean up the water.  I couldn't lift the tree up to get all of the way under it but judging by how much water I cleaned up, I thought I got it all.

Then Kevin texted me on Monday mid morning and told me some hardwoods had buckled and he moved the tree to the porch but it fell again.  I HATE THIS TREE at this point.  I have googled and found fake trees but we both want a real tree.  Is it worth all of this?  Basically we got too big of a tree.  I thought it would be gorgeous but honestly it was too big and fat for our room.

Well, another new tree stand later, this bad boy has been upright for 48 hours now so I think we are safe to decorate it.  Yep, we are officially having Christmas out on our porch.  It's glassed in so it should be fine but not what I initially pictured. Hey, it's always an adventure right?!

Now we just have to get it decorated....in our spare time haha.

  1. What a project! The tree is gorgeous though. I can't wait to see it all decorated, although I hear you about having enough time to do everything.

  2. Oh no!! I'm sure in the moment it was not funny at all! I always want the biggest Christmas tree I can find but this year we picked one that is kinda small. It was a breeze to decorate and fits perfectly in our spot...but every time I look at it I feel like it's missing a foot or two. Ha!

  5. This story cracks me up. I'm sorry, I know it wasn't funny at the time, but I can just picture you pissed off cleaning the water, mainly because if it happened to me I can picture myself cursing and such I have found those plastic stands aren't the greatest, to light. Get a large metal one with the legs. And maybe a smaller tree ;)

  6. My in-laws always got too large a tree and basically had to use string/wire on walls and door jams to secure it! But I'm sorry it's been such a pain! I so badly want a fake tree because we need something tall and skinny and that's hard to find!

I also wanted to tell you that I think you're doing a great job juggling motherhood! I have two little ones and my husband and I definitely go out and went out when they were little and still had fun and I commend you on doing it with your husband! Great job balancing it all!

  7. Yikes! That's a story for the books. I hope your hardwoods are salvageable! Merry Christmas:)

  8. This happened to us when my youngest dd was about year old. We got a wonderful tree and once we got it home, everything went south. Three broken tree stands ended with my husband literally throwing the tree into the front yard. We've had an artificial tree ever since. I admit it is SO much easier, especially with the lights already on!

  10. Gorgeous tree, and I second the comment above about tying it to a wall/door...my parents have to do that with theirs every year. Good luck!
