Doing What WE Want

I must preface this post by saying that we have SO much fun doing what we do with our family and friends.  We wouldn't trade ANY of it for the world.  We have had THE BEST time going and doing everything.  All the trips, weddings, nights out, special dinners, amazing experiences, parties at friend's homes etc.  AMAZING!

BUT, do any of you want to do what YOU want to do sometimes?  Do you sometimes want to use your time off from work for a trip YOU want to take?  Yes, sometimes the events above coincide with what YOU want as well.  That is always awesome!

Or maybe you'd CHOOSE to go somewhere else?  Maybe you'd CHOOSE to stay home and do nothing and not feel guilty for it?  Maybe you'd CHOOSE to have a staycation instead of a big trip away.  Maybe you'd CHOOSE to be random and go on a day trip somewhere you've been really wanting to do.

I don't know, just on my mind lately.  Sometimes I just want to do what WE want to do.  Like I said above, sometimes these coincide with already planned events which is fun.

Next year, I hope Kevin and I will focus more on US and what WE want to do.
Ya only live once!

  2. totally agree. We have spent the last 2 years using all of our vacation time for weddings, events, etc. While we love being a part of that we are SO looking forward to 2014 and being able to use our time for what we want. That might be traveling to see friends but it's on our own terms.

  3. Good for you for resolving to do this!! I definitely know what you're talking about. Oftentimes we're expected to be the flexible ones because we're a young married couple pre-kids so we have all the time in the world, right?! Ughh. Though I know we shouldn't, we tend to feel guilty if we do something just for US, since we don't see our family too often and feel we should include them. But again I so agree with you, it's important to our marriage and happiness that we do just what we want to do too!

  4. Definitely true! I think sometimes people just get caught up in what they are expected to do or what is convenient. Good for you!

  5. Yes, take time for yourselves...I don't have any problem saying no and setting my own agenda, but I can imagine if you are married there are double the friends and family!

  6. Totally. Our original daydream for Christmas was to go to the Bahamas and not see a single family member or friend at all. I like it being just the two of us sometimes, even though we have the most loving and wonderful people in our lives.

  7. At the beginning of every year B and I plan a trip/or something that WE want to do. It lets us know how many vacation days we have left for other things and it keeps us on track for us. It has worked for us - this year our honeymoon was that trip, last year was London, the year before that the Bahamas. Next year, we are already looking into places - but we always set aside at minimum one whole week to do something JUST us.

  8. Oh my goodness. YES YES YES. I so wish we were staying her for Christmas so that M could have Christmas morning in her home without lots of traveling and time in the car. But....that's tough with 2 families and sets of grandparents who want to see her and other siblings who have already said they aren't coming home for Christmas....

And now that I've used your comments section to "vent" I feel slightly better :) My point....you're not alone!

  9. I can relate to this! I feel like we are always so busy with family, friends, work that we don't even always enjoy the fun things in our life. A lot of the time, I just think "I WISH I COULD JUST STAY ON THE COUCH IN MY PAJAMAS." I have definitely had to work to say no sometimes to social obligations.
