Wedding Wednesday - Picking a Date

When it came time to pick a date, I thought it'd be super easy.  We had finally decided to do it in uptown Charlotte and we had about 9 months before our date.  Well when I started contacting vendors, it became apparent that we weren't going to get first choice on much of anything.  And I'm here to tell ya - if we're spending that kind of money, we want first choice!

We wanted to do it in the Spring all along so obviously 2012 was out because we didn't want last choice on anything.  Summer in Charlottte is brutal and I just can't imagine sweating the entire day (just my opinion).  I was open to September even though I didn't want to do it during football season.  But, the Democratic National Convention is in Charlotte then...AKA, we won't even be able to be living uptown let alone have a wedding here.  October is a really popular wedding month and to be honest I'm more of a spring lady then fall lady.

The holidays were out so then you're onto March and some decent weather.  I was all excited about the middle of March.  Then the church said we can't have your wedding here then because Easter is the last weekend of March and we don't allow weddings 6 weeks prior.

SO, our wedding date is the Saturday after Easter in 2013.  April 6, 2013.  And there you have it.  It's the same week Kevin and I started dating and by that time it'll be 4 years.

And yes I'm tired of people's reaction being that's soooo far away.  I just want to tell them YOU HAVE NO IDEA....you try to plan a wedding in uptown Charlotte and you'll see!!!!!!!!!  Can you tell it makes me really frustrated?!  And I know it's a normal reaction from them and I know I shouldn't be upset....but.

And having it another place or destination?  Kevin and I thought it was important to get married in the town we live, where we met and where our friends could be by our side on our special day.

So what this has taught me is that I will never ever question anyone's date or location.   Instead I'll just be super excited for them and know that's what they chose to do.

Okay I feel much better now.  Thanks for listening friends! :)  Please tell me one of you all had something like this happen.

Wow! What an ordeal! Glad you were able to settle on a date. We got married at the end of March in Charlotte, and the weather was PERFECT. I think you picked a great time of year :)

It's your wedding...remember that if someone says anything! We had a 2 year engagement b/c my sister was getting married in 99 and we didn't want to get married the same year so we waited an extra year. Its all good, don't stress the small stuff. :)

o my god what an ordeal! I'll be graduating college when you get married haha! I can't believe all the struggles you went through to get that date! I can imagine it would be similar here in the DC area too. Maybe I should book my wedding date now and then find someone to marry! sounds more efficient haha!

I really wanted Fall but I could have never pulled it off getting engaged in July.
I did NOT want a long engagement though so we chose Feb., which is not a big wedding month. Since we did it in such a weird month we had our pick of dates here in Uptown. They were even offering us discounts at some venues!
We could have even gotten married on Valentine's Day weekend(which is what I really wanted), but Brad shot that down real quick.
He felt like everyone has their own plans for V-day.

HA! I'm glad you have a date! I bet every bride can tell you a story about the date being the hardest part of the planning process! I just KNEW I was going to get married in spring, because it's my favorite season, Rob's super hot nature and I only like 1 flower - tulips, etc., etc., etc. I got married on July 26th in Charlotte. HOT, STEAMY, HOT! :)

I think your date is wonderful-it's also my birthday! It's so hard to pick a wedding date in the south between holidays, weather and football! Congrats again!

What an ordeal but congratulations on the date. Just remember its your wedding and be a bridezilla. I was nice and it got me no where! When I flipped out with a complete melt down I got everything I wanted so annoying!

Yeah, I wanted my wedding to be October, but after calling the vendors, they decided I would have it in September, so I remember the drama. But I love April 6th. It'll be so pretty!

We got married two days after Christmas, and we were trying for the week before Christmas. It was awful trying to get a caterer AFTER Christmas, but it worked out in the end, and I had my Christmas wedding. It was worth all of the hassle :)

Choosing a date was definitely the hardest part of planning our wedding. We'll be getting married in Charlotte as well. Once you choose the date its like a mad dash to sign contracts with all your vendors before one of the ones you want gets booked. I feel like that took the biggest stress off of wedding planning once the date and location was settled - so glad you've chosen your date! Congrats!

Aww! Congratulations! That date is perfect because it is yours. Now, you will have first choice of all of your vendors, etc. The time will FLY and you need to do what makes sense for you. Nothing else matters! So excited for ya'll. Enjoy this precious time! xoxo, Margot

Oh my goodness girl, I can't even imagine! But I agree with you every couple has a different way of doing things...and that's great considering it's THEIR wedding! You have to do what works for you not anyone else! It is y'alls day after all :)

Congrats on selecting your date sweetie! It will fly by and you and Kevin can take your time and enjoy the planning process, it will be wonderful! Especially since you are house hunting and working, and all of that stress does add up! Spring weddings are just the best, plus the cherry blossoms are all out and tulips and peonies are in season! Yippee!! I am sooooooo happy for you!!! It will be FABULOUS and I can't wait to see all your special touches!! xoxoxoo

So glad to hear you have a date! I agree with what so many have said about the perks of a long engagement. You can really enjoy your engagement, have a better chance of getting all the best vendors, and all of your guests will have lots of time to plan to come! :)

Sounds like you guys had as much of a difficult time picking the perfect date as we did! I'm glad we both have our dates though :)
