House Updates - Landscaping

This week was the big event of designing the landscaping in our yard!  We are keeping it pretty simple and classy.  Met our landscaper on site last Thursday and spent a couple of hours picking things out for each place.  Here are a few things we came up with...

Crepe Myrtle - one out front.

Little Gem - one of these out back.

Hydrangea on the side of the house.

Nelly Stevens Holly on the front corners of the house

Boxwoods or actually Compacta Holly's instead because they're more durable.

This was our starter list of bushes and trees:

Crepe Myrtle
Bradford Pair
Small Magnolia tree (little gem)
Hydrangea
Azalea
Nelly Stevens Holly
Bloodgood maple tree
Rododendums bush
Boxwood small leaves
Foster Holly - not as tall as Nelly Stevens
Leyland Cypress
Nandina
Red tiped photinia
Aucuba (spotted laurel)

  1. Love your landscaping choices! Not to sound like a know it all but bradford pears seem to grow really fast, get top heavy and tend to break. Hope I spelled pear right - lol

  2. Love all your choices! We used to live in Richmond and had several Crepe Myrtles. How I miss them...

  3. Bradfords are not great due to the above comment. My home parish had a ton then a storm knocked most out a few years ago. Love the crepe myrtles!!

  4. Bradford pears have a pretty unpleasant smell to them and make lots of yard litter. Most people end up having to top the trees after six or seven years because of growth or storm damage. Consider a red bud instead - strong, compact crown, beautiful spring bloom and fall foliage.
