Five on Friday - Kevin's Birthday, Ivanka, House Update

1.  Today is Kevin's birthday!!!  We have a fun weekend planned to celebrate and I'll fill you all in on Monday!  This picture is from our honeymoon in Maui in 2013.  Old school and when life was easier haha!

2.  Have yall heard how Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Belk are pulling Ivanka Trump's line?  I think it's terrible that we can't support a working Mom.  Nordstrom says it doesn't have anything to do with politics but come on!  Ridiculous.  This country voted for Donald Trump.  I'm so tired of the criticism of his every move.

3.  Kevin traveled to Atlanta this week for a work conference and I was home alone with Molly Anne and Mills.  It was really weird being the one home when usually it's Kevin there and I'm off traveling.  The only crazy thing that happened was the coat rack falling on Molly Anne and she being buried under a million coats.  Thankfully the pole didn't hit her but she would have been padded with coats anyway.  #momoftheyear

4.  I really need to do a full post on our house updates but this week they finished digging the footers on Monday, placed rebar (reinforcement bar) on Tuesday and poured concrete in them on Wednesday.  Yesterday the concrete cured more and today they are going move dirt around the lot and survey some points.  Next week they will start laying the concrete block foundation and that will take 5-7 days.

5.  Today we have a Valentine's Play Date with our friends.  These are the things that I don't want to miss as a working Mama so I busted tail to work super early this morning and I'll leave shortly to go get her and go to the play date then take her back to Becky's then I'll come back to work.  Always worth it!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

  1. I really don't think the stores dropping her lines is based on politics, but yes it is political that people aren't buying the products as much. Sad for her, because her items are nice. I don't think she will be hurting though lol.

  2. Many people voted for Trump but a lot of people didn't. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and hoping he does right by us. He needs to move away from Nordstrom and focus on bigger issues that we are facing.

  3. I think the Ivanka thing is ridiculous. It's definitely too convenient for all these stores to "have low numbers". Have fun at the valentines play date!!

  4. In every election there are those who didn't vote for the winning candidate. There is never a president that I have completely agreed with - but I have always respected them. Unfortunately, Mr. Trump has started his presidency as he ran his campaign. I can't get past his bullying ways, his twitter rants - and when he led the National Prayer with comments about The Apprentice ratings and how we should pray for Arnold Schwarzenegger I was actually embarrassed. I always want our presidents to do well, because then our country does well. I am hoping for the best.

  5. Love the flexibility your job offers! You are lucky to be able to spend precious time with her! Yes to house updates! Exciting!

  6. Retailers have a bottom line to meet-and the fact is, Ivanka's line isn't performing well. Customers have a right to choose where to purchase goods, and working mom or not, they have a right not to associate themselves with someone connected with a misogynistic, bullying, xenophobic president. You can't really argue a line can be drawn when Kellyanne Conway attempted to convince Americans to purchase Ivanka's merchandise-an illegal and jaw-dropping move.

  7. Maybe Ivanka is a class act, but her father and his advisors are very scary. I won't wear anything with their name on it! As a civil engineer, you have to realize what a costly nightmare Trump's wall would be....

  8. Much of the Trump criticism is 100% justified. People are voting with their dollars and her father's words and actions have cost her sales, end of story. Why should they continue to carry a brand that is underperforming? Maybe he should worry more his elected job than his daughter's shoe line no longer being carried at Nordstrom. And yeah, he was elected, but 3 million more people in this country voted for Hillary than voted for him. We don't all have to blindly fall in line and support someone who doesn't represent our values.

  9. The entire country did not vote for Trump. What I can't figure out is why our President is commenting on what brands a retailer carries especially since it's a family member. As our leader, I would think he has much more important issues to tackle. I'd rather him spend more time researching a better candidate for education, for example, rather than make sure his family's pockets continue to be filled with more and more money. He ran his campaign based on "draining the swamp". The people who voted for him should take a close look at these actions and whether he is following through with this promise. Just these two examples (using the White House twitter account to comment on financial decisions affecting his family and appointing DeVos for education) seem to be quite the opposite.

    1. Your comment is quite ridiculous. Do you think that Barack Obama used his time wisely either? I mean he was on an 8 year golfing vacation. Give me a break!!

    2. Hi Lisa! Thank you for your well thought out eloquent reply. I appreciate you taking the time to explain to me why Trump choosing DeVos will help any students in this country or why his daughters clothing line is important enough to comment on publicly. I did not compare Trump to Obama and if that's your only argument, it seems similar to my children arguing that "well they did it first".

  10. Whatever happened to not commenting if you didn't have anything nice to say haha? You are too nice...I would not have left any of those nasty comments on my personal blog!

I love Ivanka and will continue to buy her products! Have a great weekend!

  11. I am so over people being so critical of President Trump. Every single thing he is accused of is non sense. He is being accused of being racist. Funny how one of the first staff he hired was African American. He is being accused of hating women. Again he pays his women more than most of the men on his staff. He is being accused of hating gays. Again didn't he hire a gay man? It's so ridiculous to me and I feel sorry for the people who can sit back and continually point out everything he does but yet supported the laziest president we have ever had in history. I am so over the comments and hope he does an amazing job. He definitely has a rough ride ahead of him since the left criticize the poor man for breathing. Geez!!
