On Marriage and Disciplining

Getting Mills has been a really good thing for Kevin and I.  It's taught us a lot individually and as a couple.

And I've learned...

I'll be the person that disciplines our children.

I know, how could you smack the nose of such a cute dog?  But let me tell you, when he is chewing on the leg of an antique table that your parents gave you, it's quite easy.

Yall - Kevin can't do it.  He can't smack his nose.  When Mills picks up a slipper, Kevin's response in his regular tone of voice is, "Mills, that's not yours."

That's not going to cut it!

So next time he does it, I smack that beak of his!  And guess what, he doesn't do those things again after I do that to him a couple of times.

I keep asking Kevin when he plans to start disciplining Mills.  His response, "when he isn't so cute."

Yeah.

Now how is it going to be with children?!!  Especially a little girl!  Oh my...

I suppose we'll cross that bridge when we get there but please tell me what happens with your guys and disciplining?  How does it happen in your house?

  1. Neither of us have any patience when it comes to bad behavior. So unfortunately for our kids, there's only bad cops here. Haha. Whether it works or not, we shall see. ;)

  2. Baha "when he isn't so cute." Heads up, he will always be cute! Cameron is definitely the disciplinarian to Brady and I can be, but only when I'm mad enough. :)

  5. Haha! Zoey has been a learning experience for us, too. I get frustrated with her much more easily than D does, but he has more effective discipline skills. She just tunes me out, and will do anything he tells her. I have a feeling I am definitely being prepared for motherhood ;) haha!

  8. With our pup, Sadie we are both strict. I'm strict because she loved to chew on my shoes and that annoyed me to pieces. Zach was strict on potty training because he would have to clean that mess up if it happened.

With Sadie, we hit her on the bottom and lemme tell ya, after 2 days of that, she's done. She is also a pleaser though and wants to make us happy and hates when we are upset.

I'm curious to see what happens with Sawyer.

  10. Haha, you are so cute! Kevin is going to definitely have to figure things out down the road or your future kiddos will have him wrapped around their little fingers!

  11. I am 100% going to be the disciplinarian when we have children as well. I love rules and structure and have a really hard time seeing parents let their kids run all over them. Sean will be a softie, especially if we have a girl. ;)
