Charleston Trip

We had an amazing time in Charleston last Wednesday through Saturday.  Kevin won this trip through his work and yall know how his trips always are - over the top!

We stayed at The Charleston Place hotel in the downtown area just across from the market.  It is a gorgeous hotel to say the least.

His parents came with us too so that was fun to have them there.

The first night we went out with our friends Stacey and Mike to High Cotton.

Our food was amazing.  I had tilefish and a couple oysters on there.  Kevin had shrimp and grits.  We splurged and shared a piece of peanut butter pie.  It just seemed right at the time.  Ha!

I got up early on Valentine's morning and walked a few miles around Charleston.  I had to scope out Kevin's Mom's and my shopping plan and I wanted to just check things out.  I took pictures of homes that I may frame for some of our empty wall space.  I figured why not have pictures of places Kevin and I have been together.

While his Mom and I shopped all day, Kevin and his Dad went on an organized tour of Fort Sumter.  We enjoyed the tour de King Street.  Haha.

Valentine's Day evening, the secret event happened!  We loaded buses that evening and had no clue what we were in for.  I love that they make the big events like that.

We arrived at Lowndes Grove Plantation.  As you can see, it is stunning.  They had these few areas set up in the front lawn with seating, fire pits and cute lighting.  All of the food was inside set up in each room - low country boil, shrimp and grits, carving station, all amazing stuff.

This was the outside area set up with a few oyster stations.  I lived out here and had literally about 5 dozen oysters.

They kept dumping steamed oysters on the table, all.night.long.  Of course boiled peanuts were essential too.

In the tent, there was a great jazz band.

The sunset kept getting more beautiful.

Canoe of beer.

Our new friends Benji and Sarah.  His agency is also in Charlotte and they're going to Monte Carlo and Paris too.  We loved hanging with them....so much that the four of us were up until 3am chatting in our hotel room haha!

The bar was stocked with the good stuff, as usual.

The next day we walked around with Kevin's parents then we decided to drive out to Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms.  After lunch at Coconut Joes, Kevin and I had to touch the water!

That evening we went to a place called Leaf in Charleston for a salad.  This was so good...grilled caeser salad with calamari.

Then we met up with Megan and Cameron at a wine bar called Social.  She writes Fried Green Pickles and I'm sure most of you know her!

Their wedding is a week before ours, they have a golden retriever, Megan and I have lots of the same blog friends, Cameron and I are civil engineers, we've each been engaged since 2011 and dating for four years, we had just a FEW things to talk about haha!!  We loved hanging out with them.

Next time Kevin and I will meet up with them on the front end of our trip instead of the last night after we had two big nights before.  I kept telling them that we are usually more fun!  Ha!

Thanks friends for making us feel welcome in your town!

All in all, we had a wonderful trip but you guys know I was ready to see my Mills!  He had a big time at Camp Bow Wow but I think he was excited to be home too.  ;)

  5. You just can't go wrong in Charleston. I am so glad y'all went to Lowndes Grove. I may be biased, but it is the best venue in Charleston - truly a little piece of heaven. Oysters definitely taste better fresh off the fire on the marsh-side.

It is so nice that Kevin (and you!) gets rewarded with these trips. Definitely an incredible perk!
