Our Anniversary!

First, happy birthday to my Dad!  I won't tell you how old he is but he was born in 1949! ;)  He had quite a birthday last year...he got to give away his daughter the day before.  This year was probably much better for him.  They went to dinner down at the beach with 3 of their couple friends!  See you soon Pops!

========

Well, on Thursday, I was the lucky recipient of the 24 hour bug going around Charlotte.  In the few days before that I had been in a hospital visiting my FIL, on a couple planes, in random places shaking 10+ hands at once, at my office and at restaurants.  So who knows how I got it but the good thing is, Kevin has so far not gotten it.  I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

So that sort of changed our weekend plans and I ended up ruining Kevin's big surprise for our anniversary but we still had a fun time anyway.

Friday night we went to Italian at Mama Lena's so I could have plain noodles and we could go see Kevin's parents at their home.  Thankfully his Dad is out of the hospital after being in there for a week.  He's getting better each day.

Saturday we took THE jeep to breakfast at Stacks and Lowes to get flowers for Spring.  It was fun to get that thing out of the garage for once.  He (ie WE), just spent almost $1k getting it back in working order so that baby needs to be used!  I'm trying to forget about the $1k...!

We got home and played in the yard.  Well Mills was the only one playing, we worked.  Then Mills helped us work.  We pulled roots out from the trees we recently had removed.  These have to get taken out before grass will really grow.

It was hard work but it was a beautiful day and all of our neighbors were in their backyards too so we had a big time.  Mills loved his life.

He got so muddy that a bath was in order.  And playing towel after the bath is the best part for him!

Dead asleep after I made him come inside.  He was worn out!

I was feeling okay so I begged Kevin to go to our anniversary place - Basil Thai.  Little did I know that he had already completely rearranged his plans for next Saturday night instead.  But, he agreed since I reallllly wanted to go to Basil.  He did tell me what he had planned which is super cute - since the 1st anniversary gift is paper, we were going to dinner at Capital Grille then the waitress was going to give me a piece of paper with an address on it and that would tell me where we were going next.  So he had planned this out with all of these restaurants and bars that are our favs uptown.  Then we were going to end up at the Ritz to spend the night.  I was going to end up with a fabulous night out and lots of paper with addresses of all of our favorite places!   Ole Kev is a thoughtful guy!

We texted our friends Dave and Jenn and asked them if they'd like to grab a cocktail with us and thankfully they did that and joined us for dinner!  Both David and I got the Red Duck Curry for something different - yum.  Kevin got pad thai.  Jenn got Basil Chicken.

Something really special happened at dinner.  The waitress came up to the table when we first sat down and said, "Some parents have said that the first round of drinks is on them."  How cute is that?  My parents had called Basil and told them we were celebrating our anniversary and they wanted to get our cocktails.  How classy is that?!  Loved it!

I think I've told you all how special of a place Basil is to us.  We basically started hanging there when they hadn't even opened yet.  They did a special soft opening party for The Avenue (our condo building) on March 19, 2009 and that's when Kevin and I really started chatting.  We also went there for our first official date on April 3, 2009 and have been there for every single anniversary since.  Last year was our wedding week so we had drinks there after our rehearsal dinner with all of our favorite people!

Anyway, Chai (the owner) knows the whole story of us and how special Basil is to Kevin and I.  He sent us a dessert after dinner.

Kevin looks so goofy in this picture haha!  And short!

Then we got to meet up with Kevin's Uncle Chris who was in town for a conference from Austin.  We met him at the Marriott lobby then walked to Aria for a few beverages!  We ended up back at the Marriott bar for a night cap and had to have our picture taken in the Marriott lobby.  The funny thing was that at this point it was April 6th and our anniversary.  The Marriott was our wedding hotel so it was so cool to be back on the same date.

Best part - we rang in our anniversary with some of our favorite friends and family.  Very special!

Okay so I was wearing heels but I think Kevin was slouching.  He is definitely 5 inches taller than me usually ha!

Yesterday (our actual anniversary) we had brunch at Cantina and layed low.  We worked and played hard on Saturday so we had to recoup.  We got the cake out of the freezer.  Looks like it was the second layer.  Our cake lady actually will make us a new top layer for our anniversary but I didn't ask her to do that.  We honestly don't need it and this was a fun tradition anyway!

We didn't even eat dinner after our big brunch.  We just had a piece of cake instead ha!  Look at that oreo filling.

We received the nicest cards and phone calls from family and friends.  My friend Cathy that I've told you all about also sent us one.  We felt so loved by everyone on a special day!

Here's to one year and five years in the same week!  Many, many more to come!

  5. Happy anniversary! The top layer tradition is kind of strange isn't it? I mean. When did it start? Can't be very old because people had to have freezers.
And your dad is one year older than my parents! They are 1950 babies.

  6. Happy 1st anniversary you two little lovebirds! That was so nice of your parents to call the restaurant and pick up the tab for your first round of drinks. And how thoughtful of Kevin with all of the addresses?!? I love it when a guy puts some thoughts into a gift! PS - Brady is totally obsessed with towels when he gets a bath, too! Like, goes crazy.
