Wedding Wednesday - Some Things We're Doing Differentyl

Okay I'm going to put it out there.  I'm over it all.  I just want it to be here.  I'm sick of everything!!!!  My stuff has been planned for months (or over a year is some cases!) and I just want it to happen.  Now.  I want all 200 people in our town and I want to show them a good time on Saturday night!  I'm not trying to wish away the next few weeks but Kevin and I are READY!

-----------------------------------------------------

There are a few things for our wedding that we're doing differently.  And here they are!

1.  We aren't introducing the bridal party.  I mean why?  I've been in what feels like 100 weddings and I have not cared one time about being introduced.  Who remembers who anyway?  Everyone already knows who the parents are and they've seen the BM's and GMen at the front of the church.  So we aren't.  And they'll get to be with their spouse or mingling at cocktail hour instead of being holed up in a room.

2.  We are getting introduced down a gorgeous stairway.  And we'll get to the bottom of it where the cake will be and we'll cut it right then and there.  No reason to stop the party later in the night says the guy at our venue and our band.  It's hard to bring it back up to where it was 2 hours into it.  Our venue will cut only 30 slices at a time and plate it in a pretty little room that has a great view.  It'll be the coffee and dessert room.  And no this is not our cake, ours is even more boring!

3.  No bouquet or garter toss.  I'm too old for that.

We're probably not doing other stuff that everyone else does.  I like to be different.  Nothing against how others do things, those are great too, just how I wanted to do it.

April 6th will be here soon!  Thank goodness.

  1. I think it's great that you're doing things your way.
The cake idea is BRILLIANT!!! We didn't do a bouquet or garter toss either.
You're too old for that? I AM WAYYYYYYYYYYY too old for that.
Other things that people do that we didn't is the sorority and fraternity songs.
Brad REFUSED!!!!!!!!!(even though his frat brothers weren't happy about it) He said we were way too old to be doing that crap too. He even went as far to tell the DJ that if someone requested it to tell them no.

  2. We're not even having cake because the whole tradition of it just doesn't mean anything to me...LOVE your idea to keep it in a separate room, though! That'll be really nice for your guests. Also, definitely NOT doing the garter/bouquet toss. I don't want C to go up my skirt in front of everyone...how embarrassing! I'm sure we're doing stuff differently too. Love hearing about it!!

  3. People still do that garter thing!?!?! It's just so slutty to me, why would you want that at your wedding is beyond me..... good choice to opt out :)

I'm also not going to do that 'introduce the bridal party' thing, it's a wedding, not a football game.

I know yours is closer than mine but i am also ready for it to all be over. I want my marriage, not the party.

(PS I did a wedding wednesday post today too!)

  4. We cut the cake from the top, too - it does stop the party when people are called off the dance floor to watch. I didn't do a toss, either. It was my gift to all my single friends.

  5. We didn't do the bridal party introductions or the garter either. Hell we didn't even do a cake. That's what is so nice about it being YOUR wedding.. doing things the way the couple wants.

  6. Love the idea of doing a cake cutting first. That's brilliant. I didn't introduce my bridal party or do a garter toss either. Glad y'all are doing things your way, it's your day after all!

  7. I love how you're doing these things your own way - your wedding should be exactly how you want it to be! I can't believe its almost here. I felt the same way during the last few weeks before our wedding - i was just sick of planning and wanted it to hurry up and be there.

  8. What a great post! I went back and forth over the bridal party introductions and ultimately chose to do it because I wanted our wedding party to feel "special." But now I am really re-thinking it. I'm meeting with our lead singer and her manager tomorrow so maybe I'll get their thoughts. We are also NOT doing a bouquet and garter toss. I could not think of anything more embarassing or uncomfortable than Cameron going up under my dress in front of 300 people, including our grandparents. Gross.

  10. Ooohh I like your idea about not introducing the wedding party! No one listens to that or remembers anyway. We also didn't do a garter/bouquet toss....and I don't think anyone even noticed or missed it! :)

  13. I love this!! I especially like the idea of not introducing the bridal party...Bryce was in a wedding last spring and I knew NO ONE at the wedding. I hated having to wait forever awkward and alone while he took pictures and was waiting to be announced!
