Letting It Go

I keep meaning to thank you all for your advice and comments on my headaches last week!  I'm working on making changes!  But thank you!!!

Today I'm working on my ongoing battle to learn how to delegate.  One of my work/client friends and I had lunch on Tuesday and we were talking about her upcoming move 1,600 miles away.  She and I are both similar in that we are control freaks!  We like to do things our way because we know they'll get done right.  Even in our marriages it's hard to let go.  When Kevin and I bought our home, we basically divided and conquered to get it done.  This was hard for me but I obviously trust Kevin and he is a lot smarter than me anyway!  He did all of the financing (big task in 2012 and even now!).  I did the utility set up, day of moving with the movers and delivery of appliances.  Kevin wasn't even there on moving day but I didn't need him to be.  He had done so much work up front with the loan and getting other stuff straight, that it was easier for me to just do it.  It was my duty ha!

So anyway we talked about that and then I spoke with my MOH on the way home from VA about letting go and you are only one person and at some point you have to just say I can't do it all.  Do any of you feel the same?  I'm talking about getting together with friends, meeting up with a new neighbor and spending time with your significant other...oh and maybe having time to exercise ha!

How do you do it all?  I think we can all use some help on this topic!

Until we all figure it out....at least we can shop!  These were necessary.  I'm obsessed with my tan ones!

  1. I feel your pain! I struggle with 'doing it all' -all the housework, cooking, laundry, etc, that I've completely worn myself out by the time C gets home. Sometimes I have to just slow down and ask him for help, which he's always more than willing to give!

  2. Of course it's a struggle! I posted last month a quote from one of my favorite SoulCycle instructors -- "The best you can do is enough." It's hard to actually internalize that because I ALWAYS push myself to do more, but she's right - sometimes you are doing your best and your best is enough!

  3. Girrrrrrrrl I am the same way. I don't even like Cameron to help me cook dinner. (I will surely let him clean though.) I have to remind myself to take a deep breath and just let things go.

  4. Yes and yes! I think a lot lately about getting rid of the "shoulds." I should be doing this more or I should be doing that. Letting go of the guilt (self-inflicted) is so important! Whatever you're doing is exactly what YOU should be doing. On another note, those shoes. I love my Caroline's! The elastic makes them the most comfortable, in my opinion! :)

  5. I'm the exact same way! Being Type-A has its wonderful aspects, but it's also really hard when it comes to delegating and letting go. I am such a control freak, and I have the hardest time not trying to do everything (perfectly, too). I'm trying to get better about it, though!

  6. Love those new Carolines!

And I can relate so much to your post. I have really had to actively work on saying no. I have found that saying no to most things during the work week is helpful and people usually are more understanding. I usually only will do something once or sometimes twice, Mon-Fri. It's just so much easier to relax and be home.

  7. I really struggle with this on a daily basis. I am trying to let go at work because I have been working 10-12 hr days and just cannot do it anymore. I dont have time to blog, or be myself. Argh! I'm practicing balance!
