Baking Chaos - Cake Balls

I believe I've mentioned before that I cannot bake for the life of me.  The only sweet things I can make are REALLY basic.  Everyone keeps talking about cake balls so last night I gave them a try.  I wanted to bring them into work to share.  Wellllll, two hours later, I had a red hand and 10 cake balls that are a disaster looking and I would never take out in public.
So maybe next time, I will try a chocolate shell instead of white, because then the chocolate will hide the mess.  I need to figure out the quickest way to dip them in the bark and keep the bark warm enough that it is still melted.  This time I microwaved the bark, next time I think I'll put it in a glass bowl over boiling water. These 10 took too long so then I just quit because I thought it was ridiculous and I needed to go to bed!  Ahh, let the baking saga continue!

  1. Bless your heart! I've never made cake balls, but I have made truffles with crushed oreos and cream cheese on the inside, dipped in chocolate (recently I've heard them called 'cowboy truffles'). The hardest part for me is always getting the chocolate even and to look nice. I never can remember if I like melting the chocolate in the microwave or stove better, and it usually ends up the wrong way! Guess we'll both just have to keep trying!

  5. I am a terrible baker too. I usually just stick to what I know and don't get very creative, but every once in a while, I try to challenge myself, usually it ends in failure, but sometimes I get lucky. Don't give up!!

  6. I've so been there! I tried cake balls a few years ago and they were horrid looking. Tried again last weekend and they were better, but definitely not professional. Keep it up - you'll get it!
