A.Liz Adventures - Favorite "We're Old" Tradition

Hi everyone, I'm April from A. Liz Adventures.  Thank you so much to Classic Annie for allowing me to chime in with my two cents about my favorites in her series!

Today I'm going to talk about something very near and dear to my heart ... my favorite "we're old" tradition.

When I was the ripe old age of 22, Friday nights looked a little different.

Pre-partying.
Vodka-waters (with two lemons).
2am bar closings.
Taking the cab thru Jack In The Box for a Sourdough Jack.
With fries.

Alas, my Friday nights do not look the same at age 31. But I love them!  My husband and I have so many fun Friday evenings, and a 10pm bedtime is a-okay in my book.

First favorite tradition:
I love a post-work cocktail on Friday evenings. When we're not having "detox night" at our home (alcohol-free), I'm typically a wine drinker.  Something about the end of the work week just screams COCKTAIL to me though!  Here are some of the recipes I've shared on my blog for some of my favorite Friday night concoctions.

Second favorite tradition:
Pizza!  We love going to pick up a pizza on Friday nights.  No food prep, easy cleanup, you just can't beat that after a tiring week.  Our favorite combo is pepperoni, black olives, and red onion.  Sometimes in the summer we do a Hawaiian pizza with salty ham and pineapple.  We trade off who goes to pick it up, and if it's not hot outside, we take our dog Drake along for the car ride!

Third favorite tradition:
Dateline.  We are obsessed.  Especially if the storyline revolves around one spouse who takes out another (I know, we are so romantic).  Oh, and double awesome points if it's a Keith Morrison narrated episode.

I can't really commit to movies on Friday night because I WILL fall asleep on the couch.  Truth.

Ahh, the joys of growing old growing up.

I want to hear from you!  Tell me about your favorite "we're old" tradition.  :)

And ... pray tell ... are we the only couple out there with Friday nights like this?

  1. I am SUCH a homebody these days, particularly on weekends. If I want to meet up with a friend, I do it after work Monday through Thursday. Weekends are my time to totally hibernate and reconnect with my man. This was necessity-based when he was traveling so much during the week, but even now that he's been home for months, we still pretty much do low key weekends together. Cooking dinner, splurging on nicer wine than we buy on weeknights, and carving out bum valleys on the sofa :)

  2. Love reading A Liz! I am obsessed with husband/wife "who done it" too! The one this week was obvious with her many lovers on the side! Who would throw the gun and shells in the DRYER afterwards! Duh!

  3. We like staying in too. BTW - my Jack in the Box late night meal of choice has and always will be egg rolls!!! Gosh, those things are so gross and bad for you but OH SO GOOD! LOL!

  4. We've never been big "go out" on Friday night people, and now that we have a child we stay home much much more. Our Friday nights are more milk bottle, than bottle service for sure! I gotta check out your lychee martini recipe!

  5. I love being "old" too. I would rather spend a night at home or at a friends' house than at the bars. There is nothing wrong with a 2 am dance party, just not every weekend.
