Wedding Wednesday - Time of Day

Yesterday's gift guide was so fun that I think I'm going to do some more but maybe ladies this time around.  Look for that later this week or early next!

Today's Wedding Wednesday is all about time of day for your ceremony and reception and I cannot wait to hear yall's experience of what you did for your wedding or what you plan to do for your future wedding!

So we are getting married in a church downtown and then we'll walk about 2.5/3 blocks to the reception location.  We have the band for four hours.  We are initially thinking that we'd like to do the ceremony at 5:30pm so we don't have a formal wedding (etiquette wise).  By the time everyone walks down to the reception, it'll probably be 6:15 or 6:30, just in time for cocktail hour while we finish pictures.

We'll probably be introduced around 7 then the band starts during a stationed dinner that is mainly in another room?  That's where I'm confused!  How is the band supposed to play for their four hours when most are in the other room eating?  Maybe since it's stationed and meant to be just mingling that people will be in and out and flow well.  I'm trusting the guy at our venue that says this will happen but I'm just a lil nervous.

Tell me yall's experience or what you hope to do for your wedding!  I just want the flow to be perfect!

  1. I think 5:30 sounds perfect! You will have great light around picture-taking time outside and get some amazing pictures.

I've been to weddings and other events at the City Club so I know what you mean by the band being in another room. However - the staff and the band know what to do. The band will probably play lower key music until more people work their way into the ballroom for dancing, then they'll turn it up a notch. Plus - your guests will want to do three things: get some food, grab a drink, and dance! They will find their way to the band no problem!

  2. Our ceremony was at 5:30 as well! In terms of music - What we did is had only three pieces of the band play during dinner and cocktail hour (2 hours) then we had the full band play for three hours after that. The two hours with the three pieces were cheaper. You may want to look into that! I LOVE wedding bands - it definitely was the one thing I KNEW I wanted at ours. So worth the money!

  3. 5:30pm is a good time and at least you're not one of 'those' people who have your ceremony 3-hours before your reception is set to begin.
    So annoying!
I think people will be where they want to be in terms of rooms.
Face it -- most of you and Kevin's friends will be hanging at the bar! ;) LOL!!

  4. 5:30 sounds like a good time! I'm getting married at Childress Vineyards in Lexington, NC and we do not get the place till 6pm, nut till midnight. I didn't want to have such a formal wedding, but we are stuck with having it at 6 or 6:30. I'm running into the problem that I don't want my wedding to be so formal, but the time is appropriate for one, plus we are getting married outside at the vineyard so it is almost like we can have it a tad less formal, because it will be outside! ahh, too much to think about! I'm having a giveaway, go check it out and enter to win lots of goodies! :)

  5. I think 5:30 will be perfect! Love that you can walk to your reception from the church!

I think people will mingle since the dinner is stationed, especially if they want to visit with friends and family. People who get there first will go ahead and eat and others will probably mingle then eat once the rush is over. Are you having assigned seating?

  6. I love the idea of doing an evening wedding around 5:30 that's not black tie, but fun cocktail attire!
