Rome - Day 1

It was a long flight but thankfully direct from Charlotte to Rome!  There had been bad weather so everyone missed their connection to Rome so the plane wasn't even half full which was nice.  We did have the first row of the coach cabin on both of our flights so it was the best it could have been without spending $300 + 30,000 miles EACH (and both ways!) for first class.

We had a guy pick us up and I wish I had taken a picture of him....super cute Italian guy!  We checked into the Marriott on Via Veneto (right in the middle of everything!) and walked across the street to Harry's Bar.  At this point it was 10:30am on Sunday morning.  We had flown overnight and maybe slept 30 minutes.  Our goal was to stay awake all day.  So, we walked and if we saw a cool place, we went in!

I will admit, at this point, I was not a happy camper.  We were just SO far from home, just Kevin and I in this foreign place without knowing their language.  There was a moment I just wanted to go home but Kevin was the voice of reason and we made it through.  Wi Fi helped a lot (aka getting to FaceTime with my parents and see Mills)!

We went back to the hotel and showered and felt much better.  We headed down some side streets and came upon this rooftop bar with amazing views!

And we talked to this sweet couple from England for FOREVER!  They were so nice!

We went back to a place we had been during the day called El Le.  It was good and our first real pasta in Italy!

Cheers to starting our two week adventure together.

Day 2 was the best money we spent all trip so stay tuned!

  1. You were probably just EXHAUSTED when you got there which is why you felt that way.

  4. I went to Rome a few Summers ago with my parents and had a great time! Luckily, Portuguese is pretty similar to Italian so it was easy to communicate! It's always a little stressful when you don't know the language but once you adjust it's such a great experience!

  6. What a fabulous trip! I'm sure you were crazy with jet lag that first day! I spent two weeks in Europe my senior year of high school and had an amazing time, but certainly came back with a greater appreciation of home!
