Wedding Wednesday - Wedding Location

Wedding Location was one of the toughest things I've encountered in wedding planning so far.  It's that first week after you get engaged and everyone is asking you when and where.  We had several options and here they are....

1.  Get married in Maryland where I grew up.  Would have been gorgeous but transportation was an issue as was finding a reception location that could fit our guest list number (which is still off the charts and has to be decreased by about 30%).  Yeah any ideas on how to make that happen, let me know. 

2.  Get married in Charlotte where Kevin and I met and live.  Obviously this is what we chose.  Both of us have lots of friends here, I know this town for wedding things since my other friends have gotten married here, we look forward to showing out of towners where we live and it just felt right.  Thankfully our Methodist minister is coming from Maryland to do our ceremony.

3.  Get married in Hawaii or somewhere else tropical and only invite each of our parents.  Sometimes this seems like a great idea - it would just be so easy and we could do it now instead of waiting another 9 months.  Our friends Jenn and David did this.  At the end of the day, Kevin and I couldn't justify standing up at that alter without our best friends and family beside us.  

Pros and cons to all options!  I'm sure you all encountered the same.  Do tell.  Or maybe some of you already know exactly where your events will take place.

  1. I wanted to marry in Hawaii but since hubs is from VA and I'm from CA we thought it'd be the one time for all our family/friends to be together. So happy we did this.

    We married at my grandparents home and it was so special to both of us. Luckily it fit out 130 guests!

  2. We also considered going to the beach to get married with only our immediate family in attendance. However we decided against it because we didn't want to exclude our extended family and friends so we decided to stick with getting married in our home town, St. Louis, where we still live along with all of our family and friends. The guest list is larger than I would have liked, but I'm sure it will all work out. Best of luck with all of your planning!

  3. Although a destination wedding would be fun & easy(er), I just could not do it either. I need all of my family and friends to be there! Luckily, both my fiance and I are from and live in Charleston so the decision was super easy! :)

  4. I wanted to run away and get married with immediate family only. Brad refused..
    We got married in Charlotte. Honestly, I wasn't into the whole wedding thing like most girls are. I think it was b/c I was 34. Hence why ours wasn't over the top.

  5. It is hard sometimes to pick where to have the wedding, but in the end you just have to pick the place were you both as comfortable and makes the most sense. You will like having everything in town so you don't have to worry, as much, about how stuff is going to make it to the right places.

We had similar discussions and because of the long wait list at most venues in our college town (Madison, Wisconsin), we ended up choosing Ohio where we live now, but my parents are also hosting a more casual reception in my hometown a few months later for all my family and friends who aren't able to make the trip.
