Just keeping things real today. When I spend $225 plus tax on a pair of shoes, I expect them to last longer than a year. Check these puppies out...
Hole in the left sole and on the khaki part of both shoes.
Thora flops...full disclosure I've had these for two years.
But the leather has come detached from the bottom on both. I asked about this at the TB store and she said not to wear them in the rain. Fine.
So last year I got a new pair and babied the heck out of them.
And this one has started doing it too.
Yes they are cute shoes and I love them and let's be honest I'll still probably wear TB but come on! $115 flops and they don't last a year? $225 flats and same thing?! The problem is that they go with every piece of clothing I own and dress up work outfits.
The swim TB flops I have that I spent half as much on have held up better than these.
Cost versus quality...?!
I have the Camilla's too and yes, I've had them since January and worn them 25 times maybe and they are already wearing through on the bottom. But I do love them. Thankfully I have a good cobbler in town that can resole, since I don't plan to resell.
ReplyDeleteYou should take them to Dean's Shoe Repair in Myers Park. The man is a magician!! I have a pair of Jack Rogers that I wore the heck out of (the soles were falling off) and he made them look like new!
ReplyDeleteI wore some of my TB flats to death in college and now they get destroyed quickly in NYC too. I agree with you, they go with everything I wear and the Carolines are very comfortable so I still buy them. I have an old silver pair that I love and they don't make anymore. The cobbler worked wonders on them!
ReplyDeleteI've never liked TB anything really, it's too faddish in my opinion and clearly doesn't hold up well! There are too many other shoe companies that aren't as expensive that are better quality. But I know it's hard when they go with everything!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Ally on this one - I'm occasionally tempted by the hype, but I have seen WAY too many posts and tweets about TB crap falling apart. That makes me INSANE, and I think I would cry if a $200 pair of shoes acted like Target shoes. No thanks.
ReplyDeletethanks for this honest review, I was hesitant to splurge on some and now I won't!
ReplyDeleteMine have gotten holes in the bottom, as well! The first pair of Revas I got broke the DAY I wore them. I took them back to Sak's and exchanged them, but I was still mad. Honestly, I'm right there with you--I probably won't stop buying them because I wear them so frequently, but it's still frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of TB...the huge gold symbol is a turn off. However, they are cute shoes. Can't believe they fell apart like that...Completely ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Ally and MCW.. not really a Tory fan either. Too expensive and if that is the quality. No thanks.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I love Lindsay Phillips flats. I have 5 pairs of them with different switches to change out. They have held our remarkably. She's also from here in NC. They are just as cute too.

I had a similar problem with a pair of suede Revas. Within 6 wears, the inner sole peeled completely off. I got them on sale, so I felt I couldn't be too upset, but the shoes retailed for near $250! I have a pair of tumbled leather Revas that have held up well, but overall I'm not impressed with the cost of TB when compared to the quality. It's disheartening because I love her clothing, shoes, and accessories, but if I can't find them for a steal, I don't buy it anymore.
ReplyDeleteOkay, seriously! That's actually pretty ridiculous. I've thought about buying TB shoes, but I've always been hesitant because of the price. I know this sounds absolutely awful, but I think that my shoes from Payless have held up better than that. I wonder if it is because they use better materials and they are less sturdy? Although, my husband has a really nice pair of dress shoes and they have held up for three years with just getting them re-soled every year or so...
ReplyDeleteThe last time I purchased TB Revas was about 3-4 years ago and both pairs have held up nicely. Maybe the quality has gone down as the brand has grown? Unfortunately I have found that to be the case with many brands. I purchased a pair of Bloch flats at TJ Maxx and they have quickly become my favorite, worth the 40 dollars I spent!
ReplyDeleteThis is very interesting! I don't own anything by TB because I just can't justify the price, especially considering that I taught in my past life and needed a shoe with lots of support and now I stay home with a toddler. I almost got my sister to get me a pair at Bloomingdale's during a big sale last year (she works in management there) and she told me she'd do it, but that was the last pair of shoes she'd choose for herself due to the quality. I definitely think her stuff is cute, but the cost is just too much for me.
ReplyDeleteOh my! That's crazy! I really haven't had the same experience, other than I did have the soles of my Caroline's re-soled. I found the soft leather (metallic silver) did not hold up as well as the patent in the thoras, but still they shouldn't be coming apart like that! I did go through a big phase and have been wearing the same pairs for the last 2-3 years, and I have to say that they've all held up well. I agree that you should be happy with what you pay for!
ReplyDeleteOh man! My Caroline's have held up well...and I wore them all winter while carrying around an extra 41 pounds, so who knows?! My Thora's are hurting a little bit though, too. But nothing compared to my Revas...the leather on them is all scuffed and chipping. It sucks to spend so much money on shoes and not have them last! Come on, Tory, get it together!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear your TB Carolines didn't work out for you. I have the same ones, in fact I have seven pairs of these flats and haven't had any issues. I guess I'm lucky. Although yours didn't last they still are pretty cute flats. This are mine.

So I was just about the pull the trigger on these and googled TB Thora and your post was at the top of search results! I think based on this I am going to skip out, I am tough on shoes to begin with and at $125 these babies aren't exactly cheap...
