Bookshelves and Mantel

I'm still debating if we should paint the bookshelves and mantel the trim color in this room (high gloss Creamy by Sherwin Williams).  We've rearranged the shelves since this picture so they aren't as cluttered . Speakers are on two of the top shelves.

I should probably mention that we have a dark brown leather couch and chair in here with a light colored rug.  We don't have a patterned chair in here..yet.

You can see the Creamy on the frames and doors in this picture.

Thoughts?  I think a neat color on the back of the bookshelves would be pretty too.  Most likely a real pretty blue to match a lamp and the pillows we have.

  1. I vote for creamy. I would paint the fireplace creamy too. Mills is such a cutie! He looks just like my grand dog, Murphy!

  2. I think the creamy would look great on the bookshelves. It would really lighten up your room more. We have dark brown couches and our living room is very similar to that creamy color. Our fire place and the trim in the room is all white. It looks really good with the dark couches. Can't wait to see the finished room! Life as I know it

  4. I think so too. Word of advice though. Hire someone to do it!

  5. I think painting the bookshelves and mantle a white would really help to brighten the room up and make it a little less masculine. Then painting the backs of the shelves blue would pop without being too much of a dark/light contrast.

  6. You should definitely go with the cream! It will make the room look a lot brighter and bigger. I would do the fireplace too. I love white bookshelves (compared to brown) because it shows less dust.

  7. This was hard for me, because I do love the contrast of the wood, but I think the creamy color would really warm it up and modernize the whole room.

  8. Creamy would be so pretty... especially with a pretty blue back wall. We are in the process of putting in built-ins and it's such a hard decision. I love the wood, but it will certainly brighten up the room with the creamy color!

  9. I think the wood looks lovely but am always more partial to light colors. I think the creamy with a pale blue background on the shelves would look phenomenal. Such a statement while still being subtle!
