Formal Dress Help!

I've been lucky enough to be invited to a very formal and special event in November and I have to find a dress.  Don't know about you guys but I haven't worn a long dress since sorority formals in college!  Even Kevin's work trip gala's, I've worn a knee length dress.

So....

When I was home home a couple of weeks ago, I tried on my prom dress and surprisingly it still fit mostly but was a lil too tight in the toosh.  It is super fun though and I would have totally worn it if I weighed about 10 lbs. less.  But I don't so I need to find a new dress.

So where do you look for a new dress?  I found the above one on Nordstrom's website.  I've thought about Rent the Runway but I'll be traveling for the event and that whole thing makes me nervous when I'm not in a place to get something new shall the RTR not work out.  Plus, it isn't like I own a back up long dress so that option is out.

Neiman Marcus' dresses are gorgeous but way too expensive for this.  I wonder if there are any other boutiques in Charlotte I haven't thought of that are reasonable.  Any online shops?

Help!  And thank y'all in advance!

  1. Love the dress in the photo! Tasteful and classic. The last long/ formal dress I needed was from Nordies(online) and the one before that was from Banana (super random and major sale- was $48!). I'd try Rack - usually have a good selection and prices. And I'll bet you can find shoes too.

  2. I LOVE that dress from Nordstrom. Its very classic and elegant. I love Nordstrom for formal dresses (you could try Nordstrom Rack too or Saks Off Fifth). Jessica McClintock and Cache sometimes have pretty formals that are really fun but can really be hit or miss.

  3. There's a long satiny strapless gown on sale on Talbot's website as of like two - three days ago, chic classic and you can just accessorize how you want!

  4. What about a department store like Macy's? Less expensive than Nordy but they would likely have a nice variety. Gosh...it's been about 15 years since I last shopped for a formal gown. How fun- can't wait to see what you find!

  5. I remember when I was getting my graduation dress at David's Bridal - private school we were simple wedding gowns. Anyway a woman there the same day was having a horrible time finding a dress for some kind of formal event. I think she ended up ordering a floor length black simple bridesmaid dress. Not sure if there's enough time for ordering something like that but the website is worth a shot! Good luck! This kind of thing can be a pain!

  8. I always got my formal dresses for college at the BCBG outlet! They have them at the Tanger outlets (there's one at Myrtle Beach, one near Chapel Hill and one in Gaffney). But they have gorgeous floor-length gowns that are almost always marked down!

  9. Are you going to a Marine Corps Ball??? They are in November so it was a long shot. :) I get mine from Nordstrom, they are reasonably priced for the most past and stunningly classic like the one in your photo!
